The Pitch:
A mysterious teenager that appeared in Metropolis after the apparent death of Superman in the battle against Doomsday. He exhibits a number of the same abilities and calls himself Superman, but there's 3 other assholes running around ALSO apparently impersonating the departed Man of Steel.
Unlike basically every other cape, this kid is openly sponsored by mega-conglomerate LexCorp as part of an initiative to fill in the gaps left by Superman's absence. Half superhero, half celebrity influencer. Gets annoyed that nobody seems willing to recognize him as Supes. Prefers to do hero work when there's a camera on him. Stop calling him Superboy.
Important History Stuff:
- genetically engineered by LexCorp scientists under Dr. Dabney Donovan (did they still call it Project Cadmus??? we'll say they did)
- Lex apparently never gave him a name (aside from Superman) but the scientists probably called him by his serial number, #13.
- probably spent some time 'training' aka getting beaten to shit so Lex could observe the limits of his abilities and get him used to combat scenarios
- probably had to go to Hero School aka studying Supes and the Justice League (and listening to Lex rant about them)
- probably had an extensive ~product rollout~ schedule with staged hero appearances, a careful social media campaign, coaching in how to speak to civilians, etc. Presumably he was also under strict orders not to draw unwanted attention from any other capes or speak about his origins.
- gets into it with the Eradicator at Lex's launch party, where he meets Lois and Steel and also gets his ass handed to him
- publicly outed as a clone (thanks lois) and trivialized as superboy (thanks steel)
